The London Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the Congress Theatre for a Sunday afternoon concert conducted by Adam Hickox, with the orchestra's Principal Trumpet, Tom Nielsen, as soloist.
The programme opens with Beethoven's Leonore Overture No. 3, a dramatic piece inspired by the story of a political prisoner's rescue. Tom Nielsen then takes the spotlight in Neruda's Trumpet Concerto, a showpiece for the instrument. The afternoon finishes with Brahms's Second Symphony, written during a summer holiday in the Austrian Alps and full of warm, sunny melodies, lullabies and waltzes.
Arrive early for a free pre-concert performance at 2:15pm in the theatre foyer, where local young musicians from Create Music (Brighton Dome and Brighton Festival) will play.
Tickets are from £17.50, booking fees included, and are sold through Trafalgar Tickets. Details and booking: lpo.org.uk/event/brahmss-second-eastbourne
