This year marks the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.
To celebrate Lewes's connection to Thomas Paine, whose ideas helped shape democratic movements around the world, join the colourful parade and afternoon festival.
An 8 foot walking skeleton puppet of Thomas Paine will lead the parade which will start at Bull House, 92 High Street (where Paine lived in Lewes) at 1pm on Saturday 4th July. Dress up as an Ancient Greek, Runnymede Knight, French or American Revolutionary, Suffragette or Civil Rights Campaigner - bring your own banner! The parade will include the Angels with Attitude choir and the Don't Lose Hope band.
From 3pm in the Gun Garden at Lewes Castle there will be music, poetry, storytelling and ideas, with stalls and refreshments. Join James MacCleary MP, Forest and the Gardner, Starfish, Jon Mason, Compass, Vanessa Rowlands and the SDNP.
